COUNCIL NEWS - JANUARY MEETING
Vice President Nomination
In preparation for the Vice President election for Session 2019/2020, the Council reviewed and adopted the "Procedures and Schedule for Vice President Nomination".
The nomination period for the election of Vice President for Session 2019/2020 is from 29 January to 8 March 2019. A Council meeting (Special) will be held on 11 April 2019 for the candidate(s) to make a presentation to the Council Members before the Council finalises its nominations of Vice President for the election by Corporate Members on the day of the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The notification of the election of Vice President is printed on page 40 of this issue and details of the information and the nomination form are available on the Institution's website at http://www.hkie.org.hk during the nomination period.
Year plan of the Construction Dispute Resolution Committe
The Council noted the proposed 2018 - 2021 activity plan of the Construction Dispute Resolution Committee and approved the budget required for the implementation of the plan.
Renewal of Agreements of Co-operation with the Institution of Engineers (India) and the American Society of Civil Engineers
The Council approved the renewal of the Agreements of Co-operation with the Institution of Engineers (India) and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Nomination of Chairperson and Directors of Engineering Forum for 2019 - 2021
The Council approved the nominations of the Chairperson and ten Directors of Engineering Forum for the term 2019 - 2021 in accordance with the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Engineering Forum Ltd.
The HKIE New Members' Reception cum Prize Presentation Ceremony
Some 300 newly-admitted members, awardees and guests joined us at the New Members' Reception cum Prize Presentation Ceremony on 11 January 2019 at the Hong Kong Club. It provided an excellent opportunity for newly-admitted members to meet our Council Members, Division Chairmen, Discipline Representatives and Local Representatives, and to learn more about the services provided by the HKIE. The Trainee of the Year Award, the HKIE Scholarship and the HKIE Prize for Outstanding Engineering Students were also presented on the occasion. Highlights of the event will be reported in the next issue of the Journal.
The HKIE Engineer Day
The Institution is organising the HKIE Engineer Day on Saturday, 13 April 2019 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). With the support of the PolyU as the co-organiser, the Event aims to provide an opportunity for students to learn more about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and the engineering profession as well as to arouse their interest in engineering. The Event consists of competitions, game booths, lab demonstrations and lectures. Details are available on the HKIE website: http://www.hkie.org.hk.
Under the Event's objective, the HKIE is organising two competitions namely the "Smart City Model Design Competition" for primary school students, as well as the "STEM Product Proposal and Design Competition" for secondary school students. Detailed information is available on the HKIE website:
Divisions' Annual General Meetings (AGMs) of Session 2018/2019
The Divisions' AGMs of Session 2018/2019 are to be held during the period of 26 March to 7 May 2019 (inclusive). Circulars of Divisions' AGMs will be sent to Division members' registered email addresses via the HKIE eNewsletter system and posted on the websites of both the Institution and Divisions. Members can update their correspondence information and change of membership status if any at the Members Login area on the HKIE website at http://www.hkie.org.hk or contact the Membership Section at email@example.com.
The HKIE 44th Annual Dinner
The 44th Annual Dinner will be held on 15 March 2019 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. We are honoured to have the Financial Secretary of the Government of the HKSAR, The Honourable Paul M P Chan, GBM, GBS, MH, JP, as the Principal Guest. Publishing work of HKIE Transactions
HKIE Transactions is a quarterly periodical with over 20 years of history that provides a forum for discussing all aspects of engineering from both theoretical and practical perspectives. State-of-the-art papers, research papers, technical notes/letters, literature reviews, case histories and written discussion are welcome. From January 2019, the Institution has taken up the publishing work of HKIE Transactions from the Publisher, Taylor & Francis, after the contract ended.
