Technical visit to Keystone factory in Dongguan, the PRC
By Ir W S TAM
The EL Division organised a half-day technical visit to Keystone factory in Dongguan, the PRC on 28 February 2009 with 33 members joining the visit.
The visit began with a technical talk by Keystone at their training room on their company profile and cable manufacturing plant. The talk also presented different cables' structure, properties and specifications. Afterwards, the participants visited Keystone’s cable manufacturing plant that produced different cables including medium voltage cables, low voltage cables, branch cables and data cables.
It was impressive to see the process of machineries working and producing cables from raw materials to finished products. The cable production processes included wiring drawing, conductor stranding, cable pay-off, die and take-up process, amouring process and bedding/sheathing extrusion. Different cable tests and inspections were demonstrated, which included dimension check, conductor resistance test, insulation resistance test, tensile strength test, flexible test, partial discharge test and fire test.
The visit was successfully completed and received very good comments from the participants.
