Launching of the book and seminar on construction management and earthquake engineering practice in the PRC

The CV and EV Divisions were the supporting organisations of the Professional Services Development Assistance Scheme (PSDAS) project undertaken by the Association of Engineering Professionals in Society (AES), in which the AES published a new book, "Construction Management and Earthquake Engineering Practice in the Mainland", and organised a seminar on 11 February 2009.
The contributors to the publication of the book and the seminar included Prof Zhou Fu-lin, Prof Wang Yayong, Institute of Earthquake Engineering, China Academy of Building Research, and experts and academicians from the PRC as well as Hong Kong, they shared their knowledge and experiences in construction management and earthquake engineering practices in the PRC.
The book was edited by Ir K P Yim and Ir Dr Linda C N Fan. It contains 268 pages and is a high quality publication covering a wide spectrum of earthquake engineering topics. The book is a very practical and informative reference document that local engineers should not miss. The themes of the book include Part A: Mainland construction management practice; Part B: Mainland earthquake engineering practice; and Part C: 5.12 Sichuan earthquake's recovery and reconstruction projects.
The seminar was well attended by over 300 engineers at the lecture theatre of the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre. Ir Mak Chai-kwong, JP, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Development Bureau, was the officiating guest and delivered a keynote speech.
