The captioned visit was successfully arranged by the BD Division on 18 November 2023. Representatives from Gammon Construction Ltd, including Ir Lilian Ng and her team, conducted a comprehensive site tour and delivered an informative presentation, highlighting the project's challenges and solutions implemented in response.

During the presentation, Ir Ng and her team emphasised the utilisation of an integrated collaboration platform, which facilitated digital project delivery, streamlined collaboration, and issue tracking. They also utilised a cloud-based solution for nightly uploads and issuance of drawings and project information. This ensured easy access to the latest information for the project team. Laser scanning and deviation analysis were employed to check for missing or out-of-tolerance building elements.

Furthermore, the team also detailed the construction sequence and drawing specifications of the steel roof, which included primary trusses, secondary trusses, “tree columns,” skylights, walkways, baffle ceilings, and roof coverings.

The steel works for the roof were divided into 21 modules, with assembly taking place on the ground before the Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) work, Architectural Builders Works and Finishes (ABWF) installation, and roof covering. Real-time sensors were utilised alongside traditional manual surveying to monitor the roof lifting process and enhance efficiency. Afterwards, the participants had the opportunity to examine the steel roof works on-site.

To commemorate the visit and capture the unforgettable experience, group photos were taken with Ir Ng and her team as mementos of our exploration of this remarkable engineering masterpiece.

On behalf of all participants, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the BD Division and the project construction team for organising this highly informative and memorable visit.

Technical seminar on proposed amendments to the Noise Control Ordinance Cap. 400 to control domestic renovation noise
By Ir Eva LEE and Ir Jenny MAK

The captioned seminar was successfully organised by the BD Division on 17 January 2024. Ir Andrew Cheung Sau-cheong and Dr Leung Ho-wing, both officers from the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), were invited to the seminar to deliver a presentation on the proposed amendments.

They highlighted that the aim of the amendments was to address the noise issues arising from domestic renovation effectively and introduce a fixed penalty system. The EPD, they further explained, had initiated a two-month public consultation on the amendments on 18 December 2023.

The presenters emphasised specifically that percussive breakers and percussive drills would be the targeted control tools under the amendments. They then elaborated on the details of the controls, including the advance notification mechanisms and the allowable working period. To enhance the participants’ understanding, the presenters also showed a video demonstrating the noise levels produced by different types of percussive breakers.

Ir Cheung and Dr Leung then organised a poll and a questionand- answer session to gather opinions from the participants and encourage discussions. The participants responded enthusiastically, which led to lively and intense discussions on the topic.

On behalf of all the participants, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the BD Division and the representatives from the EPD for delivering a detailed and informative presentation and facilitating such engaging discussions.
