In memory of Ir Kenneth LUN Chi Leung
- By Thomas LUN, his son
Ir Kenneth LUN Chi Leung, my father, passed away on 21 February 2024 at the age of 75.
After finishing his master’s degree, my father began his career in 1970 as an apprentice engineer in the Public Works Department of the Hong Kong Government. Between 1974 to 2000, for more than 25 years, he worked for Mobil Oil Corporation’s Engineering and Operations Division. He was based in Hong Kong but had also spent a number of years working in Australia and Singapore.
In 2000, my father founded KL Consultant Engineers Ltd, offering specialised consultancy services on projects and facilities related to petroleum and gas. Being uniquely qualified to embrace building works and petroleum and gas installations as a one-stop shop, he assisted numerous entities in navigating through intricate and challenging projects.
He was an active member of, and had held key leadership positions within, a number of professional engineering bodies. These included the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers, the Institute of Petroleum, the National Fire Protection Association (US) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK).
My father was born in Hong Kong in 1948. His early childhood was spent mainly in and around Central with his parents, brothers, and sisters. He attended St Joan of Arc Secondary School and Queen’s College before entering The University of Hong Kong, where he graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He went on to attain a Master of Science in Engineering in 1970. He married Daisy Lam in 1973 and had three children: Iris, myself (Thomas), and May. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Alyssa and Alex, in recent years.
