To grow the nexus, President Ir Eric Ma Siu Cheung has selected 12 young engineers for the President’s Protégé Scheme 2024/2025. Though they come from different disciplines and backgrounds, they all share the same vision – linking the links in unison with the HKIE. Approaching the threshold of celebrating the 50th anniversary of its establishment, the HKIE finds itself at a critical juncture to instigate an even better future. The Protégés aspire to act as a super connector, to cultivate a new generation of engineering talents and drive the long-term development of our society. We welcome you to join us on this journey, and let’s begin by introducing our crew!
Miss Anthea CHAN Chi Chai
Upon graduating from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 2023, I joined CLP Holdings Ltd as a Graduate Trainee (GT) and started to pursue a master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in HKU.
During the GT training programme, I have had the chance to learn more about the operation of a power utility and the critical role engineers play in ensuring reliable and sustainable electricity for our community. This exposure has solidified my determination to apply my skills and expertise to serve the community.
It is my pleasure to be one of the Protégés for this Session. I am motivated to bring the bright colours of engineering in Hong Kong to the global stage.

Mr Carson CHAN Chun Hei
Having graduated from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2023 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, I have started pursuing a master's degree in the same field while joining the Hongkong Electric Co Ltd as a Graduate Trainee. Working in a power company presents me with a golden opportunity to be up-close and hands-on with generation, transmission and distribution equipment. These experiences reinforced my belief in how beneficial and important engineering is to members of the public.
Knowing that the skyscrapers of this beautiful Pearl of the Orient are powered by my company is a huge motivation for me to continue upholding the high standards of supply quality and reliability. This requires dedication, engineering profession and expertise. I hope to show the values of a professional engineer and spark the public’s interest in engineering.
I am honoured to be selected as a President's Protégé to nurture my engineering expertise and professional pride in serving Hong Kong’s community as an electrical engineer in the future.

Ir Nicky CHAN Pak Yin
After graduating from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with a bachelor's degree in Civil and Structural Engineering, I undertook my chartership review with the Institution of Civil Engineers at the age of 22. Mr Jerry NG Chun Hei
Upon graduating from Imperial College London with a master’s degree in Civil Engineering, I joined Arup as a Graduate Engineer in the Geotechnics and Energy Group. I was honoured to have my undergraduate studies sponsored by both the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme and the TWGHs Man Mo Temple Scholarship for Overseas Studies. My overseas studies have inspired me to adopt a different mindset to look at engineering challenges and propose sustainable engineering solutions that would bring wellbeing and happiness to our future generations.
The well-structured training in Arup has provided a diverse experience that has developed my special analytical skills and creativity towards solving complex geotechnical problems. These project experiences have inspired me with the notion that the role of an engineer is no longer to build more but to build better. With strong passion and enthusiasm, I dedicate myself to promoting our engineering profession and serving the community to shape a better world.

Mr Roger PANG Hing Wa
I am studying the MSc in Building Services Engineering in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University after graduating in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree from City University of Hong Kong. After completing the HKIE Scheme “A” Graduate Training, I joined the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department in 2023 and has since then been posted to the Architectural Services Department as an Assistant Building Services Engineer to carry out design and oversee various new government building projects.
Serving in my role as a project engineer, I am sincerely grateful for the invaluable opportunities that have allowed me to accumulate extensive knowledge and experience in the planning, design, administration, and management of public works, including a wide range of new public facilities such as cultural centres, sports and recreational facilities, columbarium and crematorium buildings. These experiences have not only contributed significantly to my professional growth but also nurtured my ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
My goal is to become a professional building services engineer, dedicate myself to contributing to and promoting carbon neutrality in Hong Kong and the adoption of innovative technology, and devise renewable energy design solutions to meet the challenges of our Smart City.
It is with immense honour that I have been selected as one of the President’s Protégés. I would wholeheartedly commit myself to collaborating with my fellow Protégés as we collectively endeavour to foster stronger connections with the society and enhance interconnections within our profession in this Session.
