Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the HKIE, President Ir Alice Chow has selected 13 talented young engineers from diverse backgrounds for the President’s Protégés Scheme 2025/2026. Together, they will RISE and work closely with the President through a range of events, embodying the core values of Resilience, Innovation, Sustainability, and Equity. We are pleased to welcome our Protégés as they introduce themselves, sharing their passion and commitment to advancing the future of the Hong Kong engineering community.

 

Mr Joe CHAN Cho Hon

 

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, I joined ATAL Engineering Ltd. as a Graduate Trainee while pursuing a master’s in Energy Engineering at The University of Hong Kong.

 

Through the training programme, I gained valuable knowledge in energy optimisation for buildings and the importance of engineers in promoting sustainability and energy efficiency. This experience strengthened my dedication to applying my skills for community benefit.

 

I am honoured to be selected as a Protégé and motivated to contribute to a greener future for Hong Kong and the continual advancement of the engineering profession.

Miss Crystal CHAN Long Ching

 

My academic and professional journey reflects my commitment to civil engineering and continuous learning. After graduating from The University of Hong Kong, I am now advancing my expertise through a master’s programme while working as a Civil Engineering Graduate with the HKSAR Government. I take pride in contributing to infrastructure projects and value the collaborative spirit of engineering. A highlight of my work is tackling real-world challenges through innovative design solutions. As a President’s Protégé, I aim to bridge gaps between disciplines and promote diversity in engineering. My goal is to inspire others while contributing to sustainable and resilient infrastructure development in Hong Kong.

Miss Teresa CHAU Tsz Lam

 

After graduating from The University of Science and Technology with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, I joined Arup as a Graduate Engineer in the Civil and Resources Group. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in the same field at The University of Hong Kong.

 

The well-structured training at Arup has equipped me with diverse experience, including involvement in roadworks design and project management of large-scale infrastructure projects. These project experiences have shaped my belief that engineering is not just about building structures, but about creating lasting positive impact for communities in need. As a President’s Protégé, I am committed to collaborating closely with my fellow Protégés and serving the community to shape a better world.

Mr Jimmy HUI Kwan Ming

 

Upon graduating from The University of Hong Kong with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, I began my professional journey as a Civil Engineering Graduate in the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD), driven by a passion for broadening my professional exposure and actively contributing to the engineering community.

 

Through the comprehensive training programme, I had the opportunity to work on several major infrastructure projects, such as the Central Kowloon Route and the Fanling Bypass. These experiences enabled me to gain practical exposure to construction coordination and to develop problem-solving skills for tackling technical challenges. In the era of AI, continuous learning is essential for engineers. By actively embracing emerging technologies, I strive to remain agile and well-equipped to contribute to sustainable development and to address the evolving needs of society.

 

I am deeply honoured to be selected as one of the President’s Protégés this year. I look forward to the journey shadowing the President and working alongside my fellow Protégés to promote engineering as a multidisciplinary profession that values technical excellence, social responsibility, and sustainability. Miss Deborah IP Tsz

 

After graduating from Imperial College London, I served as a System Assurance Consultant at AtkinsRéalis before transitioning to my current role as an Industry 4.0+ Consultant at the Hong Kong Productivity Council. I am passionate about advancing New Industrialisation initiatives through R&D projects that integrate AI, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and industrial Metaverse technologies into smart production lines, supporting industry and technological upgrades. As a President’s Protégé, I am committed to fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and enhancing communication among young engineers.

Mr Cyrus LEE Sing Chun

 

After completing my bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, I joined Towngas as a Group Management Trainee.

 

Through the training programme by Towngas and the HKIE President’s Protégés Scheme, I aim to apply my knowledge in gas and renewable energy to drive commitment to clean energy solutions. These roles allow me to translate academic knowledge into practical applications, equipping me with the skills to contribute significantly to Hong Kong’s sustainable energy transition. As a Protégé under President Ir Alice Chow, I am thrilled to learn from her leadership and advance my professional journey.

Mr Vincent LEUNG Wang Lok

 

Upon graduating from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree and then from Zhejiang University in 2024 with a research-based master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, I joined the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) as an Electrical Engineering Graduate, and began to pursue a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering at the HKU.

 

Through the HKIE Scheme “A” Graduate Training, I have acquired a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the various applications of electrical engineering in society. This has strengthened my dedication to applying innovative technologies to the engineering industry.

 

It is my honour to be selected as a President’s Protégé, which enables me to further contribute to the collaboration between the local engineering industry and academia, as well as between the engineering industries in Hong Kong and Mainland China, with my rich research experience and innovative thinking.

Miss Katie LI Ka Yan

 

Upon graduating from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Environmental Engineering, I joined HK Electric as a Graduate Trainee under the HKIE Scheme “A” Graduate Training in Environmental Engineering.

 

At Lamma Power Station, I conducted a study on demineralised water demand-supply, and was honoured to win the Safety Quiz 2025 Cup Champion. My goal is to become a professional engineer in the power industry, driving innovation toward Hong Kong’s 2050 decarbonisation target.

 

It is a privilege to be selected as one of the President’s Protégés, and I am committed to inspiring young talent by demonstrating the professionalism, expertise, and impact of engineers in shaping Hong Kong’s future.

Mr Kenneth MAN Yiu Sing

 

Upon graduating from The University of Hong Kong in 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, I joined CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd. as a Graduate Trainee under the HKIE Scheme “A” Graduate Training. Through rotations in various departments, including distribution and transmission, I have collaborated closely with engineers by observing power system operations, data analytics and project coordination. This has strengthened my technical knowledge and teamwork skills.

 

My training has deepened my appreciation for Electrical Engineering’s vital role in ensuring a reliable power supply and driving industry innovation. I am passionate about applying my insights to address real-world challenges and contribute to Hong Kong’s sustainable energy future.

 

Being selected as a President’s Protégé is a tremendous honour. Through this programme, I aim to inspire young talent and foster professional development by promoting engineering excellence and collaboration within the industry and society.

Mr Stone MUI Ho Chuen

 

Upon graduating from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a bachelor’s degree in Building Services Engineering in 2020, I joined Hip Hing Construction Company Ltd as a Senior Construction Officer. Currently serving as a management trainee preparing for a project manager role, I recently completed my master’s degree in Construction Project Management in 2024.

 

With my interdisciplinary background combining technical engineering knowledge and project management expertise, I am passionate about advancing the engineering profession in Hong Kong. My goal is to foster greater public appreciation for engineering’s societal impact while mentoring young talents to pursue engineering careers.

Miss Hilary SIN Hiu Ying

 

Upon graduating from The University of Hong Kong with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and earning a place on the Dean’s List of Honour for the Class of 2023, I began my career as a Graduate Engineer at MTR Corporation. Working in the Capital Works Business Unit, I have had the opportunity to rotate through various roles in design, construction, and project management, contributing to systemwide and train services projects for delivering large-scale infrastructure developments.

 

One of the most fascinating aspects of my work has been overseeing the railway system and witnessing how different disciplines collaborate to ensure success. This experience has expanded my perspective beyond the scope of an electrical engineer, encouraging me to continuously learn from others and approach challenges from diverse viewpoints. By equipping myself with knowledge across various disciplines—both traditional and emerging fields, such as Artificial Intelligence—I hope I can remain adaptable and resilient in facing the global challenges.

 

Being selected as one of the President’s Protégés this year is an incredible honour and opportunity. Through this programme, I aim to strengthen my leadership skills, broaden my professional network. I look forward to fostering sustainability and innovation, building resilience and promoting equity with the President and my fellow Protégés to RISE together.

Mr Kevin TSANG Kun Yat

 

After graduating from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Engineering, I joined Cathay Pacific Airways as an Operational Graduate Engineer, where I underwent comprehensive rotations and gained hands-on aircraft maintenance experience. Upon completing the graduate programme, I received my Aircraft Maintenance Licence issued by the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department.

 

Currently, as a licensed engineer, I provide technical support and resolve complex maintenance issues for Cathay’s Boeing fleet. By collaborating closely with engineers and mechanics, we ensure the highest standards of safety and operational excellence in Hong Kong aviation. I am happy to share my experience with younger generations and engineers from diverse disciplines, fostering mutual growth and contributing to the advancement of the aircraft engineering profession.

 

I am deeply honoured to be selected as a President’s Protégé, allowing me to further develop my engineering expertise and learn from the President. Together with my fellow distinguished Protégés, we strive to RISE and Move Beyond!

Miss Jocelyn TENG Zhaohan

 

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from City University of Hong Kong, I joined AtkinsRéalis Asia Ltd as a Graduate Engineer while pursuing my master’s degree at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

 

Through my professional training and academic studies, I have developed a strong passion for sustainable building design and innovative engineering solutions. Working on real-world projects has deepened my understanding of how engineering can create more efficient and environmentally-friendly urban spaces.
