The Institution hosted the second New Members’ Reception for Session 2024/2025 on 7 June 2025. More than 300 newly admitted members and guests were attended.

Immediate Past President for Session 2024/2025 Ir Dr Barry Lee delivered the Note of Welcome, congratulating the newcomers and galvanising them into active engagement. During the occasion, a certificate presentation ceremony was held for Fellows Members, Members and Associate Members who have been admitted to the HKIE recently.

It was an enjoyable afternoon where our newly admitted members were able to meet with our Past Presidents, Council Members, Division Chairmen, Discipline Representatives and Chairmen of Standing Committees in a relaxing atmosphere. Fellow Members, Members and Associate Members who were admitted to the HKIE recently

On 9 June 2025, the Continuing Professional Development Committee (CPDC) organised a seminar on “Introduction to the Building Rehabilitation Company Registration Scheme (BRCRS)” with speakers from the Urban Renewal Authority (URA), Competition Commission (CC), Hong Kong Police (HKP), and Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC). The seminar was well received by members with over 300 participants attending online and at the Institution’s Headquarters combined.

Mr Louis Lee, General Manager of Building Rehabilitation at URA, introduced the market coverage of the scheme, the support and tools provided by URA such as the Building Rehabilitation Guidebook and Cost Reference Centre, and their assistance with tendering. The requirements and assessment criteria of BRCRS were also explained.

Ms Cherie Lai, Manager from the CC, and Detective Ryan Shing from the HKP, shared cases and actions previously taken related to building maintenance projects. They encouraged the audience to contact law enforcement bodies if assistance is needed. Through the RenoSafe Scheme, professional advice on building maintenance from respective Government Departments and Public Bodies is made available to the public, along with round-the-clock police and operational support for related enquiries. The purpose of the scheme is to prevent and combat bid-rigging and Triad infiltration in building maintenance projects and associated tendering processes.

Lastly, Ms Annie Ng, Chief Corruption Prevention Officer from ICAC, encouraged members to help fight corruption in the industry, report any suspicious activities, and enhance the image of the profession and the industry.
