The BD Division, in collaboration with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the Chinese National Engineering Research Centre for Steel Construction (Hong Kong Branch), the Hong Kong Construction Metal Structure Association (HKCMSA), the Hong Kong Metal Engineering Contractors Association (HKMECA), and Jumbo Construction Technology Ltd (JCT), successfully hosted the captioned seminar and workshop on 21 June 2025.
The event commenced with welcoming remarks from Mr Danny Chan, President of the HKMECA, and an introduction from Mr Kenny Wong, the representative from JCT, who emphasised the importance of advancing steel construction techniques. Prof K F Chung from The PolyU then discussed effective applications of S690 and S960 steels in construction. He highlighted their advantages in public works and presented the construction of the double-arch steel bridge on the Cross Bay Link in the Tseung Kwan O area as an example.
Dr H C Ho, also from The PolyU, talked about the technical guidelines for adopting ultra-high strength S960 steel in pilot footbridge projects. He addressed critical challenges such as site constraints and the necessity for innovative solutions to ensure safety and efficiency.
Later, Past President Ir Edmund Leung, explored the future of high-strength steels, while Mr Wong introduced the HKCMSA and JCT’s initiatives to enhance welding technology and training within the industry.
The workshop featured hands-on experiences with VR welding simulations and a demonstration of robotic arm operations, showcasing the practical applications of high-strength steel in modern construction.
Overall, the seminar fostered an environment of collaboration and knowledge sharing among professionals, reinforcing the commitment to innovation in steel construction. Attendees left with valuable insights and a shared vision for the future of engineering in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland.
The captioned dinner held on 8 May 2025 was a remarkable event that brought together professionals and enthusiasts from the building industry. Held at the Hong Kong Holiday Inn Golden Mile, the evening was marked by a blend of formal recognition, networking and entertainment.
The evening started with a cocktail reception where guests mingled and registered for the dinner.
