Recognising the crucial role our Officers and media spokespersons play as the voice of the Institution— bridging connections from the Chinese Mainland to the global community—the Institution organised two media training sessions on 16 August and 11 October 2025 at the Headquarters of the HKIE. These sessions aimed to empower our members with essential communication and media skills.
The sessions covered an overview of the media landscape, where the speakers highlighted the critical role of news platforms as communication channels between the Institution and the public. Participants gained insights into the influence of the media and the importance of adapting to its evolving dynamics. Practical guidance followed, emphasising the art of delivering clear, concise, and accurate messages to journalists to mitigate the risk of miscommunication.
The training culminated in an interactive segment featuring case studies of past media enquiries received by the Institution, accompanied by a role-play exercise. Participants assumed the roles of both journalists and spokespersons, enabling them to appreciate the perspectives and thought processes of each party. This exercise equipped participants with strategies to respond effectively to challenging and rapid-fire questions, while also anticipating the considerations journalists may have when framing queries.
The sessions ended on a positive note, with participants expressing enthusiasm for continued learning. The Institution eagerly anticipates organising more training opportunities to keep members informed of emerging trends and best practices, fostering effective communication and continued success.
