The International Railway Safety Council (IRSC) 2025 Conference was successfully held in Hong Kong from 25 to 30 November 2025, jointly hosted by the National Railway Administration (NRA), the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of The HKSAR Government and the Mass Transit Railway Corporation Limited (MTRCL). The Institution was honoured to participate in the Conference as the Partner.

 

With the theme “Advancing Railway Safety through Innovations and Collaborations”, the Conference attracted more than 300 international railway experts to foster dialogue and share insights on global safety practices and innovations. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, The Honourable John K C Lee, Deputy Administrator of the NRA, Mr Wang Qiming and the Chairman of MTRC, Dr Rex Auyeung, officiated at the Opening Ceremony. Other officiating guests included the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Ms Mable Chan; the Secretary of the IRSC Core Group, Ms Ann Mills; the Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Ir Raymond Poon; the Chief Executive Officer of the MTRCL, Ir Dr Jacob Kam; Deputy Director-General of the Safety Supervision and Management Bureau of China Railway, Mr Wang Zhi; and our President Ir Alice Chow.

The President delivered a keynote speech in the same morning titled “Contributions of Engineers in Safeguarding Railway Safety in Hong Kong”, highlighting the indispensable role of engineers in railway safety. In the afternoon keynote session, our Past President Ir Edmund K H Leung share his insights with delegates on “Long Term Railway Development in Hong Kong”.

The Conference provide an invaluable platform for global railway safety regulators, operators and relevant stakeholders to discuss global railway safety issues, and to share the latest developments and innovative technology applications of railways worldwide. 「第四屆大灣區工程師論壇」已於2025年11月29日至30日在廣州順利舉行。

 

作為粵港澳大灣區工程界的重要盛事,本屆論壇以「智匯灣區 工程致遠」為主題,致力於推動「灣區標準」建設,全面提升工程師職業化與國際化水平,推動堅實人才和技術培育,並促進大灣區工程專業的深度交流與合作,為打造國際科技創新中心、高水準人才高地提供堅實支撐。

 

論壇獲大灣區多地官員及工程領域的頂尖人才出席,會上發布《 粵港澳大灣區工程能力評價通用規範》,有助加速推進粵港澳大灣區規則銜接、機制對接和標準互認,論壇將進一步促進港澳工程界深度融入國家發展大局,推動大灣區成為具有國際競爭力的創新發展高地。作為聯合主辦單位之一,學會大力邀請會員踴躍參加論壇,共同促進大灣區工程專業的交流與合作。

論壇亦邀得4位內地及港澳專家作主旨報告,另外設有三場圓桌討論,主題分別為「工程教育改革——培養面向未來的工程師」、「工程能力標準——構建行業共識」及「工程師職業發展——拓展 可持續成長路徑」,與會者熱烈地交換意見,為推進大灣區工程專業發展出言獻策。

下一屆大灣區工程師論壇將會在香港舉行,學會期望會員可以鼎力支持,促使大灣區工程團體之間能進一步加強聯繫,藉着論壇等平台,促進區內工程專業的深度交流與合作,推動大灣區成為具有國際競爭力的創新發展高地。


Engineering Community Demonstrates Unity in LegCo Election

The Institution is pleased to acknowledge the encouraging outcome of the 7 December 2025 Legislative Council General Election. Ir Aaron Bok Kwok Ming, our Past President was successfully elected as the Member of the Legislative Council for the Engineering Functional Constituency with 59.15% of the votes, compared with 49.1% in 2021. Division and Committee Chairmen were present at HKIE Headquarters on Election Day to support and encourage members to cast their votes, demonstrating strong unity and collective commitment within the engineering community.

In the lead-up to the election, the Institution launched a series of promotional initiatives to raise awareness and encourage member participation. These efforts included an enewsletter, multiple social media posts, and several video campaigns across the Institution’s digital platforms. One of the key video campaigns showcased five generations of engineers, highlighting strong crossgenerational support and reinforcing the profession’s collective commitment to Hong Kong’s long-term development. Additional videos featuring the President, Vice Presidents, Past Presidents and the Chief Executive & Secretary were also produced, complemented by group pledges from Council, Executive, Divisions, Committee Chairmen, and young engineers. As of 7 December 2025, the campaign had achieved cumulative viewership of over 40,000, with nearly 40 social posts released.

 

On 15 November 2025, the Institution hosted a hybrid Election Forum at HKIE Headquarters for the Engineering Functional Constituency. Chaired by Immediate Past President Ir Eric Ma Siu Cheung, the Forum provided members with the opportunity to engage directly with candidates Dr Wilton Fok Wai Tung and Ir Aaron Bok Kwok Ming. Both candidates presented their manifestos and addressed technical and policy questions from members. The Forum attracted close to one hundred participants who joined both online and in person.
