為深化香港與內地工程領域的交流合作,並慶祝學會成立50周年這一重要里程碑,學會特意將兩項一年一度的重點活動 - 「高端人才北京交流團」和「分部主席考察團」安排同期在北京舉行。
高端團一行34人,由會長周健德工程師率領,成員包括學會的主要領導班子,政府部門代表、立法會議員、大學校長、公共事業機構,包括煤氣、電力等骨幹成員、工程顧問公司、承辦商的高管,和年輕工程師等業界精英。

第三天早上,交流團在中國科技發展基金會副秘書長朱瑾女士及北京市科學技術協會創新服務中心副主任劉鯤先生等人的陪同下,考察了「國家新能源汽車技術創新中心」(簡稱「國創中心」)。
國創中心由科技部批覆設立,是汽車行業首個國家級新能源汽車技術創新中心。交流團參觀了整車能效開發試驗室、車規芯片失效分析實驗室等設施,並與國創中心代表 - 黨委委員、副總經理田雨時先生等多位專家進行座談,圍繞跨行業工程協同、氫能與新能源載具的技術路線,以及「車路雲一體化」場景落地等議題展開深入交流。

4月22日上午由中國科技發展基金會安排,考察「國家新能源汽車技術創新中心」
下午,交流團拜訪了中國工程院,獲工程院秘書長陳建峰先生等領導及院士會見。由潘巍教授、工程師、鍾國輝教授、工程師和岑浩璋教授、工程師分別就 MiC 技術、高強鋼應用及全水相微流控等課題,與工程院院士進行了深入的技術討論。

高端人才北京交流團的行程於23日來到最後一天,代表團拜訪了北京市科學技術協會,舉辦了一場「京港工程科技交流座談會」,並與北京工程師學會簽訂合作意向書。

北京科協常務副主席李昕女士、一級巡視員劉曉勘先生、科學技術創新部部長及北京工程師學會秘書長許煒等代表均表示,殷切期待與學會在人才流動、國際聯繫及技術交流等層面開展深度合作。
五天的行程轉眼結束,各團員均表示獲益良多、收穫豐盛,期待日後有機會再次參與學會舉辦的不同交流團。
為深化與內地工程界的交流協作,並促進各分部之間的聯繫,香港工程師學會於2026年4月18日至21日舉辦了「分部主席北京考察團」。是次考察由副會長陸偉霖工程師及秘書長薛永恒教授、工程師率領,多位分部主席及副主席積極參與,四日行程涵蓋了政府部門、工程專業機構、學術單位及文化地標,內容豐富多元。
考察團先後走訪清華大學、中華人民共和國商務部、北京市規劃展覽館、中國共產黨歷史展覽館及首鋼園等地,深入了解內地工程領域的最新發展趨勢,並探討港京兩地在專業技術上的合作契機。

首日行程以首鋼園為起點。團員親身體驗工業遺址如何蛻變為融合文化、科技與生活的創意新地標,沿群明湖畔漫步,參觀空中棧道、三高爐及冷卻水塔等具代表性的工業遺產。

考察團聚焦城市規劃與歷史文化。上午參觀中國共產黨歷史展覽館,從歷史角度了解國家發展歷程;下午到訪北京市規劃展覽館,透過互動展品認識北京城市格局的演變與未來規劃。隨後漫步前門大街,體會工程技術與傳統文化的和諧共融。

最後一日,考察團到訪清華大學,與吳璟院長會面並參觀土木工程實驗室及土木工程系百年預展,了解科研突破與學術成就。團員亦遊覽清華學堂、二校門及大禮堂等歷史建築,感受濃厚的學術氛圍。

是次北京考察之旅,不僅促進了香港與內地工程界的專業互動,更讓團員親身體會國家在工程教育、城市建設及創科發展的最新進展。透過拓闊專業視野,並為日後兩地工程師的交流與協作奠定了基礎。
The “EngSeeds” programme is an initiative aimed at fostering early interest in engineering among junior secondary students. Developed to support the long-term cultivation of engineering talent in Hong Kong, the programme seeks to provide structured exposure to engineering disciplines at a formative stage of students’ academic development. Through experiential learning activities and engagement with academia and industry practitioners, “EngSeeds” aspires to strengthen students’ understanding of the profession while reinforcing the broader advancement of STEAM education.
To formalise collaboration for the implementation of the programme, the Institution signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with eight local universities and tertiary institutions on 28 May 2026. The signing ceremony, held at HKIE Headquarters, established a structured partnership framework to support programme delivery and development.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Education Bureau (EDB), a supporting organisation of the programme, as well as representatives from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR and Hong Kong Education City (HKEdCity). The participation of professional, academic and educational stakeholders reflects a coordinated effort to broaden students’ exposure to engineering and strengthen the local engineering talent pipeline.

The “EngSeeds” programme is designed for Secondary 1 to Secondary 3 students, recognising the junior secondary stage as a formative period for developing academic interests and career aspirations. Through collaboration with tertiary institutions and industry practitioners, the programme provides structured experiential learning opportunities that connect classroom knowledge with practical engineering applications.
Programme activities include thematic workshops, professional sharing sessions and site-based experiential learning. The curriculum encompasses a range of contemporary engineering fields, including construction and infrastructure, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations, and biomedical innovation. By exposing students to multidisciplinary engineering concepts and real-world problem-solving, the programme aims to cultivate analytical thinking, creativity and a broader understanding of the profession’s societal contributions.
Speaking at the ceremony, our President Ir Alice Chow highlighted the importance of fostering engineering awareness at an early stage, noting that sustained talent development is essential amid rapid technological advancement and major infrastructure initiatives. She emphasised that closer collaboration among professional bodies, universities and schools will help nurture future engineering talent equipped to meet evolving industry needs.

The pilot phase of the programme will commence in July 2026. Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded a joint certificate issued by the HKIE and the participating universities and tertiary institutions.
Through the “EngSeeds” initiative, the HKIE reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the engineering talent pipeline and supporting the long-term development of the profession in Hong Kong.

On 2 June 2026, the Institution released its Best Practices for Multi-trade Integrated Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MiMEP), with a view to promoting wider adoption of MiMEP approaches in both public and private sector projects.
The release was announced at a press conference attended by our President Ir Alice Chow; Ir Dr Barry Lee, Chairman of the HKIE Task Force on Engineering Excellence and Standardization; and Task Force members Ir Keith Yue, Ir Jimmy Lee, Ir Brian Cheng, Ir Iris Lau and Ir Keiko Kam.
The Best Practices set out recommended technical, contractual and digital delivery frameworks for implementing MiMEP. Emphasising modular prefabrication and the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM), the document outlines how integrated multi-trade coordination and offsite fabrication can enhance construction efficiency, reduce site congestion and improve quality control. According to the Task Force, the MiMEP approach can reduce on-site installation time by up to 60% and decrease construction waste by approximately 70%.
In support of broader industry adoption, the Task Force proposed the establishment of a unified “Hong Kong Best Practices” for MiMEP implementation, covering technical specifications, workflow integration and digital coordination requirements. The recommendations also highlight the importance of leveraging the established supply chain within the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and facilitating efficient crossboundary logistics arrangements.
The initiative aligns with the national direction of developing “New Quality Productive Forces” and supports major development programmes such as the Northern Metropolis. In her remarks, President Ir Alice Chow noted that institutionalising MiMEP practices would contribute to enhancing productivity, safety and sustainability within the engineering and construction sector, while strengthening collaboration between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland.
The HKIE will continue to engage stakeholders and promote professional exchange to support the practical implementation of MiMEP in future projects.

The Conference “Adjudication in Action: Implementation of the Construction Industry Security of Payment Ordinance” was successfully held on 28 May 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in hybrid mode, attracting over 800 participants both in person and online. Organised by the CDRC in collaboration with the AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre (AALCO-HKRAC), and funded by the Professional Services Advancement Support Scheme (PASS), the event marked a significant milestone following the full implementation of the Construction Industry Security of Payment Ordinance (Cap. 652) in August 2025.
We were honoured to have Dr the Hon Horace K K Cheung, SBS, JP, Deputy Secretary for Justice, and President Ir Alice Chow, as Guests of Honour. In her welcome remarks, President Ir Chow described the Ordinance as a transformative step in strengthening payment certainty and sustainability within the construction industry, and emphasised the engineering profession’s role in upholding professionalism and integrity in adjudication practice.
Dr Cheung highlighted Hong Kong’s continued commitment to enhancing its status as an international legal and dispute resolution services centre, noting that effective implementation of statutory adjudication would reinforce confidence in the rule of law and commercial certainty.
Keynote speeches were delivered by Ir Johnny C H Chan, JP, Deputy Secretary for Development (Works), and Prof the Hon Nicholas Chan, BBS, MH, JP, Legislative Council Member and Director of AALCO-HKRAC. Ir Johnny Chan underscored adjudication as a speedy, cost-effective and binding mechanism to address long-standing payment disputes and improve cash flow across the construction supply chain. Prof Nicholas Chan shared insights on leveraging adjudication to strengthen Hong Kong’s role as a “super-connector” under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework.
Distinguished speakers from Malaysia enriched the programme with comparative perspectives. Ms Raagini Sama Sundaram, Senior Case Counsel of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), shared practical insights from Malaysia’s experience under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012. The Hon Justice Dato’ Lee Swee Seng, Judge of the Federal Court of Malaysia and former presiding judge of the specialist Construction Court in Kuala Lumpur, offered authoritative judicial views on fairness, jurisdiction and timing in adjudication.
The Conference provided a timely platform for engineers, legal practitioners and stakeholders to promote best practices under Hong Kong’s new statutory adjudication regime.

由香港工程師學會持續專業進修事務委員會(CPDC)聯同廣東省工程師學會(GDIE)及澳門工程師學會(AEM)合辦的技術研討會,已於2026年4月11日順利舉行。本次活動反應熱烈,現場及線上平台共吸引了眾多來自粵、港、澳三地的工程界同業踴躍參與,共同探討可持續發展的未來趨勢。
香港工程師學會會長周健德工程師在開幕致辭中指出,ESG不僅是一套企業匯報或管理框架,更是工程師「以人為本」的專業承諾。她強調在氣候變化與能源轉型的大趨勢下,工程專業肩負重要使命,需將抽象的可持續理念轉化為具體且具韌性的工程方案。同時,大灣區具備產業鏈完整的互補優勢,透過三地緊密協作與專業對話,有助於建立共同的技術語言與標準,進而發揮工程師作為「超級聯繫人」的角色,將灣區的卓越經驗推向國際。除此之外,廣東省工程師學會執行會長劉桂雄教授及澳門工程師學會賴建榮理事長亦在開幕致辭中表達三地在推展ESG的共同願景。
本次研討會特別邀請了三地的資深專家擔任講者,包括香港城市大學能源及環境學院李萬新教授、廣東省清潔生產協會秘書長陳鵬高級工程師、廣東省清潔生產協會副秘書長陳慧聰高級工程師,以及中國綠建築與節能(澳門)協會理事長兼澳門工程師學會理事李加行工程師。專家們針對大灣區ESG的最新發展進行了深度分析,內容涵蓋創新技術應用、工程相關的ESG標準與披露框架,以及在跨境工程項目中落實良好管治、氣候韌性設計與減碳措施的實務經驗。
在隨後的交流環節中,講者們透過豐富的案例與會員深入探討如何落實社會責任及協助社會邁向低碳轉型,現場討論氣氛十分熱烈。委員會主席翟志堅工程師最後代表學會對所有演講嘉賓及三地工程學會的支持表示誠摯感謝,使本次活動取得圓滿成功。
