Serving as HKIE President’s Protégés under President Ir Alice Chow has been a truly rewarding and memorable journey. We are sincerely grateful for our 師傅 (Master)’s guidance and support throughout the year, which have inspired us to grow,
learn and continue serving the engineering profession with dedication.

Through this journey, we gained valuable insights into the HKIE’s professional standards, governance and strategic initiatives. We were also privileged to take part in meaningful activities and visits that broadened our perspectives, deepened our appreciation of the profession, and encouraged us to embrace lifelong learning, innovation and active engagement within the engineering community.

Embracing this year’s Presidential Theme, “Together we RISE”, we have been inspired to reflect on what it means to grow as young engineers in a rapidly changing world. Guided by the spirit of Resilience, Innovation, Sustainability and Equity, we are reminded that engineering is not only about solving technical problems, but also about uniting people, ideas and expertise to create a better future.

As President’s Protégés, we were privileged to learn from leaders across the profession and contribute in our own ways to the HKIE and the wider community. In particular, we were honoured to support the launch of “EngSeeds” (工程Seeds), a programme that bridges classroom STEM learning with real-world engineering practice, while nurturing students’ problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.

This marks the end of our journey as Alice’s Protégés, but it is by no means the end of our commitment. The meaning of being protégés reminds us of the spirit of passing the torch (薪火相傳) — carrying forward the values, dedication and vision of our mentors, and inspiring future generations of engineers to do the same. The experiences, guidance and inspiration we have received throughout this remarkable year will continue to shape the way we serve the HKIE, the engineering industry and Hong Kong. With gratitude in our hearts and purpose in our steps, we look forward to continuing our service to the profession and to society. Together, we RISE — as engineers, as leaders, and as contributors to a smarter, greener and more resilient Hong Kong.

Miss Crystal CHAN Long Ching

Serving as a Protégé this year has marked a transformative phase of professional and personal growth. One of the highlights for me was the honour of serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the Presidential Address, where I gained the confidence to speak before an audience of more than 900 industry leaders. Beyond the podium, I also found great fulfilment in facilitating STEM workshops introducing secondary school students to Python programming.

My involvement in the Smart Site Safety System (SSSS) Task Force further broadened my technical exposure and allowed me to see firsthand how innovation improve site safety in practical ways. Through public speaking, community engagement, and technical involvement in engineering research, I have strengthened my communication skills and professional confidence, positioning myself to contribute to the future development of the profession.

Mr Joe CHAN Cho Hon

It is a great honour to be selected once again as one of the HKIE President’s Protégés for the Session 2025/2026. Building on the transformative experience gained last year, I have continued to develop into a more mature, resilient and forward-looking engineer.

Over the past year, I had the privilege of joining the Presidential Visit to the UK, where I gained valuable international perspectives and observed firsthand the global influence of engineering leadership. I also coorganised the inaugural collaborative webinar with the ICE President’s Future Leaders, which explored the role of energy in engineering. These opportunities fully reflected this year’s Presidential Theme: “Together we RISE” – Resilience, Innovation, Sustainability, and Equity.

I am especially grateful to President Ir Alice Chow for her unwavering support, patient guidance and generosity with her time throughout the year. Her mentorship has shaped both my professional outlook and my understanding of leadership. One important lesson I will carry forward is her belief that engineers create the greatest impact by striving for excellence in their work, and that energy engineering, in particular, plays an important role in building a more sustainable environment for future generations.

I am deeply thankful for everything I have learnt under her guidance and will continue applying these valuable lessons throughout my engineering career.

Miss Teresa CHAU Tsz Lam

It has been a great honour to be selected as one of the President’s Protégés under the leadership of President Ir Alice Chow. Over the past year, I had the privilege of shadowing her, attending HKIE events, including serving as MC for the HKIE Prize Presentation Ceremony, and observing Executive, Council, and Board meetings. Observing how experienced leaders navigate challenges, exchange perspectives, and make decisions in real time has been both insightful and inspiring, and giving me a deeper understanding of leadership within the Institution and practical lessons I will carry into my future career.

I am also thankful for the opportunity to join the HKIE delegation to COP30 in Brazil in November 2025. This experience broadened my understanding of climate action and reinforced the vital role engineers play in addressing global challenges. Contributing to the task force on Greater Bay Area Standardisation for carbon and climate was equally meaningful, allowing me to learn alongside passionate and dedicated professionals. As President Ir Alice Chow’s theme reminds us, “Together
we RISE”. I am grateful to have grown alongside my fellow Protégés over the past year and thankful to have been part of such a meaningful journey.

Mr Jimmy HUI Kwan Ming

As one of the President’s Protégés for the Session 2025/2026, I am deeply honoured to continue this meaningful journey of learning and service within the engineering community.

Over the past year, I was privileged to participate in various activities that broadened my exposure and introduced me to leadership responsibilities. Serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the HKIE Annual Dinner enhanced my public speaking and organisational skills, while also allowing me to engage with distinguished engineering leaders. The Presidential Visit to the UK provided valuable international exposure, While my involvement in multiple task forces deepened my understanding of how cross-disciplinary collaboration can support the profession’s continuous development.

My journey alongside President Ir Alice Chow and my fellow Protégés has been both rewarding and inspiring. I am especially grateful for President’s unwavering support, guidance, and generosity with her time. As a young engineer, I am proud to represent the profession and look forward to continuing to contribute to HKIE and the wider engineering sector.

Miss Deborah IP Tsz

The HKIE President’s Protégé Scheme 2025/2026 has been a truly enriching and memorable journey for me as a young engineer. Through opportunities to shadow the President, participate in major institutional events, and engage with the wider engineering community, I gained valuable a broader understanding of the engineers’ profession beyond technical practice, particularly in leadership, public engagement, and professional service.

A highlight of my experience was serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the HKIE Carnival, where I had the opportunity to engage with the public and contribute to promoting engineering to a wider audience. Participating in outreach activities with secondary students was especially meaningful, as it allowed me to contribute to encouraging their interest in STEM and future development in Engineering.

Overall, the programme has strengthened my confidence, broadened my perspective, and enhanced my communication and leadership skills. I am keen to deepen my commitments to ‘Together we RISE' and look forward to contributing further to the profession while supporting the development of future engineers in Hong Kong.

Mr Cyrus LEE Sing Chun

Being a President’s Protégé this year gave me opportunities and experiences that went far beyond my expectations. Besides gaining professional exposure to different areas of engineering, I took part in public engagement activities such as the HKIE Carnival, where we share with the public how engineers contribute to shaping a better world. I also coorganised an Energy Webinar featuring experts from around the world. One of the highlights for me was developing an AIpowered auto-marking system for our Python Spark Workshop, which was able to assess students’ essays efficiently within a short period of time. It gave me a real sense of achievement to apply my technical skills in a way that directly benefited both the public and the younger generation.

I also had the opportunity to join two major delegations: a technical visit commemorating the 60th anniversary of Dongjiang’s water supply to Hong Kong, and the “HKIE 50th Anniversary - Engineering Legacy @Capital”, which showcased the achievements and contributions of Hong Kong’s engineering pioneers over the past 50 years. It was also my first experience serving as an MC outside of Hong Kong, which made the occasion particularly memorable.

I am very grateful to President Ir Alice Chow for constantly encouraging us to step outside our comfort zones and embrace new challenges. Her advice on professionalism and public image has influenced the way I approach my career. I now feel far more confident and ready to take on the challenges ahead.

Mr Vincent LEUNG Wang Lok

Serving as a HKIE President’s Protégé 2025/2026 and the Protégés’ coordinator has been a deeply meaningful and transformative experience. I am sincerely grateful to President Ir Alice Chow for her mentorship and unwavering support, which have inspired my growth and strengthened my commitment to the engineering profession.

Guided by the theme “Together we RISE”, I worked closely with fellow protégés on a number of initiatives and events, including the launch of the new MiMEP Best Practices and the updated Building Maintenance Guideline, as well as the celebration of HKIE's 50th anniversary at the “HKIE 50th Anniversary - Engineering Legacy @Capital”. Through these experiences, I gained a broader perspective on the profession while learning the importance of balancing longterm vision with attention to detail. More Importantly, the journey allowed me to experience the true spirit of “passing the torch”, supporting one another, sharing responsibilities and growing together as engineers.

The guidance and experiences gained throughout the year will continue to shape my future development. I look forward to contributing further to my department, the engineering profession, our society and our country.

Our journey of learning and growth never truly ends. Together, we will continue to RISE in service of HKIE and the engineering community.

Miss Katie LI Ka Yan

It has been a profound honour to serve as one of the President’s Protégés under the leadership of President Ir Alice Chow. This journey has broadened my horizons and strengthened my sense of responsibility as a representative of the Institution.

One of the most meaningful experiences was co-founding “EngSeeds”, a new initiative designed to encourage junior secondary students to explore engineering. I also organised “Career Sharing and Path to Professional Assessment” talks across universities, helping students better understand Scheme “A” training and professional development pathway.

Internationally, I joined the Presidential Visit to Canada and the HKIE PPC Delegation to New Zealand, where I delivered presentations, engaged with professional firms and institutions, and connected with Hong Kong engineers working overseas. Equally memorable was the honour of serving as MC at the HKIE Annual Dinner 2026, and addressing members and distinguished guests on such a prestigious occasion.

This year has taught me that leadership is not only about visibility, but also about supporting younger generations, inspiring future engineers, and carrying forward our shared mission with conviction. I am sincerely grateful to President Ir Alice Chow, the Executives, and my fellow Protégés for their guidance, and support throughout this journey.

Mr Kenneth MAN Yiu Sing

Throughout my journey as one of the President’s Protégés for Session 2025/2026, I gained valuable exposure and experienced meaningful personal growth through participation in a wide range of institutional activities, under the inspiring leadership and mentorship of President Ir Alice Chow.

One of the key highlights of the year was joining the Presidential Visit to Canada, where I gained insights into overseas engineering developments and international collaboration. We also co-organised the Presidential Reception with the HKIE Canadian Chapter, where professional experiences were shared and overseas connections strengthened.

The most meaningful takeaway for me has been the opportunity to collaborate with my fellow Protégés towards a shared goal of contributing positively to society and encourage the next generation to pursue engineering.

Mr Stone MUI Ho Chuen

It is a profound honour and privilege to be selected as one of the HKIE President’s Protégés under President Ir Alice Chow for Session 2025/2026. This opportunity has been both inspiring and transformative, offering me valuable exposure beyond my daily professional responsibilities. Among the many enriching experiences, the delegation visit to Beijing stood out in particular. Through meaningful exchanges with industry experts and institutions, I gained firsthand insights into emerging engineering technologies and the rapid development taking place in Chinese Mainland. Equally valuable was the opportunity to participate in various meetings, where I observed diverse perspectives and the thoughtful deliberations behind strategic decisions. These experiences deepened my understanding of leadership and broadened my professional vision. I am especially grateful to President Ir Alice Chow for her generous guidance and encouragement, which have significantly enhanced my
planning, communication, and strategic thinking skills, while also shaping my perspective on leadership within the profession.

Miss Hilary SIN Hiu Ying

Serving as a President’s Protégé for the Session 2025/2026 has been an incredibly meaningful part of my early career. President Ir Alice Chow’s inspiring theme, “Together we RISE,” encouraged us to think beyond our own disciplines and consider how engineers can contribute more broadly to society.

Throughout the year, I was fortunate to be involved in a number of meaningful initiatives. One of the highlights was “EngSeeds”, a programme aimed at introducing S1–S3 students to engineering and sparking their interest in STEM at an early stage. From preparing the Terms of Reference and liaising with the Education Bureau to coordinating with universities and supporting the establishment of a new Task Force within HKIE, I had the opportunity to contribute to different stages of this pilot initiative.

My technical perspective was further broadened through my involvement in the Engineering Excellence and Standardisation Taskforce (MIMEP Group), where I assisted in drafting public guidelines and liaised with the Development Bureau to ensure alignment with official circulars. This experience gave me a clearer understanding of the relationship between engineering standards, regulatory requirements and infrastructure development in Hong Kong. In addition, I contributed to the Building Maintenance Taskforce by updating the manual with three chapters on emerging technologies, while also supporting the Project Management Taskforce.

Promoting the profession within my organisation was equally rewarding. I spearheaded the “Route to Ir” sharing series within my company to introduce the streamlined Professional Assessment process to colleagues. I also had the opportunity to serve as MC at several major events, which helped me become more confident in communication and public speaking.

I am sincerely grateful to President Ir Alice Chow for her mentorship. Her meticulous work ethic, together with her genuine care and guidance during challenging moments, have shaped my professional attitude and resilience.

Miss Jocelyn TENG Zhaohan

It is a great honour to have been selected as one of the HKIE President’s Protégés under the inspiring leadership of President Ir Alice Chow. Guided by her Presidential Theme, “Together we RISE”, this journey broadened my understanding of both the engineering profession and the Institution.

Throughout the year, I was fortunate to take part in many meaningful experiences. The Presidential Visit to the UK and the collaborative Energy Webinar with young professionals from the UK broadened my international perspective and highlighted the value of cross-border knowledge exchange. Participating in different initiatives widened my exposure and deepened my appreciation of engineers’ wider responsibilities. By observing institutional meetings, I gained a clearer understanding of how decisions are made and how leadership is exercised through vision, collaboration and responsibility.

Most importantly, the Scheme reminded me that engineering is not only about technical solutions, but also about vision, communication, collaboration and collective effort in shaping a better future. I am sincerely grateful to President Ir Alice Chow for her guidance and valuable learning opportunities, and to my fellow Protégés for their support and encouragement throughout this meaningful journey.

I am deeply grateful to have been selected as one of this year’s Protégés. It has been an honour to work alongside President Ir Alice Chow and my fellow Protégés, an experience that significantly broadened my understanding of engineering leadership and its impact on society.

One of the most memorable highlights was representing HKIE on the overseas delegation to the United Kingdom and participating in the “Engineering the Future” conference at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in London. This meticulously organised trip offered an excellent platform for learning and meaningful exchange. I had the privilege of engaging in insightful discussions with leading professionals and distinguished guests on global trends, sustainability, and emerging technologies.

My interactions with President Ir Alice Chow and senior HKIE leaders have been especially influential, inspiring me to strive for the highest standards of professionalism and contribute actively to the engineering community. These experiences have greatly enhanced my personal and professional growth, while reinforcing the importance of leadership, communication, and engagement within the profession.

I am sincerely thankful for the many opportunities provided by President Ir Alice Chow and HKIE, and I look forward to remaining actively involved and contributing to future generations of engineers.
