The Government’s recent allocation of an additional HK$1 billion in the 2026-27 Budget to the Built Heritage Conservation Fund underscores its steadfast commitment to preserving our cultural history. This funding will bolster support to various government initiatives and activities on built heritage conservation spearheaded by the Commissioner for Heritage’s Office under the Development Bureau. These include the Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme (R-Scheme), Financial Assistance for Maintenance Scheme on Built Heritage, as well as providing subsidies for public engagement and thematic research.

Specifically, this investment will create a significant market for professionals and heritage conservation specialists alike and encourage deeper cross-disciplinary collaboration. Innovative technologies including 3D laser scanning, AR/VR and advanced materials can be deployed to enhance the protection of projects’ historical integrity. Beyond structural preservation, the R-Scheme projects will serve as cultural and educational hubs, deepening the connection between society and Hong Kong’s rich history. Guided tours, exhibitions, and community activities will make heritage accessible to all, promoting cultural engagement as well as tourism. Our previous successful stories such as Viva Blue House, Tai O Heritage Hotel, Mei Ho House and Green Hub, having earned international accolades including UNESCO awards, will serve as benchmarks for the heritage projects to come.
