A delegation of nine members from the Institution, led by President Ir Alice Chow, visited the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Academy in Tsing Yi on 30 January 2026. The visit aimed to enhance mutual understanding and exchange views on professional development and safety practices within the construction industry.
The delegation was warmly received by representatives of the OSH Academy. The visit was further honoured by the attendance of the Under Secretary for the Labour and Welfare Bureau, Mr Ho Kai-ming, and the Executive Director of the OSH Academy, Ms Bonnie Yau, reflecting the importance placed on occupational safety and health at both policy and institutional levels.
A fruitful and in-depth discussion was held during the visit. Key topics included the development and recognition of Certified Professional Safety Engineers, as well as the significant role played by technician-level personnel in enhancing construction site safety. Participants exchanged views on how structured training, professional certification, and practical experience could work together to raise safety standards across the industry. The discussion highlighted the need for continued collaboration between professional institutions, training bodies, and the government.
Following the discussion session, Ms Bonnie Yau, together with members of the OSH Academy staff, provided a comprehensive briefing to the HKIE delegation on the Academy’s training facilities and safety installations. Members were given a guided tour of the Academy, gaining first-hand insight into its advanced training environment.
The visit concluded with an interactive experience session in which our members had the opportunity to try the virtual reality (VR) training facilities. The immersive VR experience demonstrated how innovative technology can effectively enhance safety awareness and practical skills training.
Overall, the visit was highly informative and reinforced the shared commitment of HKIE and the OSH Academy to promoting excellence in occupational safety and health.
